Whether you are a recent graduate, current student or you have an upcoming graduation, writing a resume can seem hard. There are steps you can take when putting your resume together to help you improve your chances of getting the interview and the job.
- Highlight Your Strong Points – It is important to highlight your strong points right off the bat. Use bullet points to list off any great personality traits you possess and any great accomplishments you have had.
- Include Life Experience and Volunteer Work – If you have been concentrating on your studies and haven’t had too many great jobs, know that life experience counts. Think about student jobs, volunteering, extra course work and other great things you have done that show off your personality and skill.
- Expand on Your Education – Go ahead and put a lot in this section. Include relevant coursework, awards, groups and anything else you think is worthy of a mention.
- Brag Just a Little – If you have great grades, honor awards or you have had a job and gotten promotions, go ahead and let the world know. You can brag a little without turning your resume into a novel that shouts of smugness.
- Spellcheck and Edit – Polish your resume so it shines. Have someone else look over it and make sure all spelling and grammatical errors are corrected. Read it, read it again, then read it again!
