If you are leaving town for the Holidays, there are a few things you may want to do to make sure your apartment is safe and sound while you are gone.
What to Do Before Heading Home for the Holidays
- Pipes can quickly freeze when temperatures drop too low inside. Be sure to set your thermostat at 55 or above so that you don’t come home to no water or burst pipes.
- If you are worried about securing your windows, a simple piece of wood dowel that you can get from any home improvement store works great. Measure your windows and have the dowel cut to size, then place the dowel in your windows so that windows can’t be opened.
- Be sure to throw out all trash before heading home. Leaving stinky trash in your apartment is not pleasant to return back to when the Holidays are over.
- Clean out your fridge and make sure the garbage disposal is empty, this is another way you can prevent coming back to a stinky mess.
- If you have access to the water heater have the temperature lowered so that you are not paying for it to continuously heat up water while you are gone.
- Clean up before you leave, there is nothing worse than getting back from vacation and realizing that you now have a house to clean.
- Be sure to securely lock your apartment before heading out.
